Any Given Wednesday

As some of you may recall, I joined an intramural football team at work a couple of months ago. We called ourselves Any Given Wednesday. I wish you could have met my teammates. Hakeem, Roy, Anson, Ademola, Antoine, Victor, Jason, Jeffrey, Samuel, Chris, Mary Beth, Andrea, and me. The team was very diverse and I LOVED them! Every time I got on the field, they cracked me up. For example, Hakeem (our QB) once asked me where I wanted him to aim the football when he threw it to me because he was afraid of hitting my "lady lumps." I still can't think about that without bursting out laughing.

Well, AGW was not doing so well in the first few games. 0-3 until we made an incredible comeback. We ended the regular season with a 6-3 record. During the course of the season, I had relatively few injuries until the last game of the regular season. We were on defense and the opposing team was 4th and goal. The game was close so we could NOT let them score. We were playing man to man and my man cut me across the field. Unfortunately, Roy's man took him in the opposite direction and he and I completely collided. (By the way, Roy's man was the intended receiver and missed the catch! Yay!) The impact sent me flying and I bounced hard on the ground. I jumped back up immediately because I couldn't look like a wuss but I was definitely feeling pain. I shook it off on the sidelines for a bit. Hakeem even offered to give me massage later :). Even as sore as I was, the game had to go on and I was called in to help complete a play. The rest of that game is all a blur to me. I was a little nervous for the next couple of days that I had suffered some major brain injury and wouldn't wake up in the morning. Luckily, I lived to tell the story and go on to play in the playoffs.

Sadly, the playoff season was short for us but there are plenty more sports coming up. We're hopefully keeping the same team when it gets warm around here again and softball starts up. I. Can't. Wait.

"Lady lumps"...I laughed when I read that. In fact, I am still giggling.
